Getting a Z Visa
There are a number of required documents you will need in order to be prepared to get your working Z visa. It is better to be prepared early but if you haven’t don’t worry. The majority of our candidates only begin obtaining their documents after their initial interview and getting accepted for a job. We will walk you through every stage of your application following your acceptance to one of our jobs.
According to SAFEA, Chinese government regulations. Only applicants from the UK, USA, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa will be permitted to obtain a Z visa to teach legally.
Essentials for the Initial Interview
A detailed educational background from high school to University (from Month/year to Month/year)
Make sure to include any work experience related to English teaching if held.
A colour scanned picture of both sides of your passport. Although, black and white scans are also acceptable. This will be used later for verifying your residence visa in China.
Preferably in either a high quality .JPG / .JPEG / .PNG Format
Documents to Acquire Post Interview
1. Ideally a previous employer’s signature if possible or any institution
2. Keep consistent with the CV (including working time and working place)

- Hospital stamp across the upper right of the photo
- Doctor’s suggestion part: fit / healthy to teach in China
- Signed report date
- Fill all the blanks

2. Face to face application at Foreign Experts Affairs of capital city. ( 10
work days or so )
3. Download notification letter online and send to graduates via email for Z
visa application.
1. Fill visa application form (School information from the institution in advance, school
name, address, contact details, zip code etc.)
2. Send application form/notification letter/passport to Travel
Direct/5 Star Travel China for Z visa application
3. Graduates get Z visa
1. Book flight to China
1. Pick up at the organised airport
2. Stay at hotel for one night (booked hotel)
3. Exchange RMB if necessary
4. Inform detailed ticket information in advance like train number, arrival time, carriage,
seat, contact’s phone number.
1. Fix a time for meeting foreign teachers at hotel in advance and take to train station
2. Take train ticket out and take foreign teachers to checking entrance
3. School teacher picks up from the exit of train station
School teacher takes foreign teacher to get a local bank and sim card with a passport and temporary Z visa.
1. Get through a medical check at Inspection and quarantine bureau in capital city of
China
2. Hand over all original documents at Foreign experts Affairs to apply for
Foreigner’s Work Permit ( Mostly for one year)
1. Foreign teachers are taken to local Immigration management office for a Residence
Permit.
2. Stick residence permit onto the passport
3. It takes 2-3 weeks to get passport back
4. Immigration management office gives a paper which allows foreign teachers to walk
freely around in China, even taking train.
